Hyper Spectral imaging technology
-
Hyper Spectral imaging technology is a technique that collects and processes information across the electromagnetic spectrum and gather information for each pixel in an image. This helps Speedwolf analyse and distinguish plastic variants of same molecules but different densities e.g. PET, HDPE, LDPE etc.
-
SpeedWolf utilises a state-of-the-Art camera which operates with Hyper spectral imaging capable of identifying differences in plastic materials invisible to the Human eye. As a result we are able to automate the recycling processes, increase the efficiency and value of recycled material (due to the purity of material separation)
Neural network
-
Neural network is machine learning method in Artificial intelligence that teaches machines/computers to process large amount of data and make decisions mimicking a human brain. In Automated waste sorting Neural network can be trained to analyse and sort a vast variety of materials.
-
Speedwolf utilises Neural network to analyse RGB images and more than 200 infrared spectral images to accurately distinguish different plastic materials and assist with purity of sorting.
Delta robotic Arm
-
Delta Arm is a high performance robotic arm that uses parallel linkages and jointed construction to provide fast, precise and flexible movement.
-
Speedwolf uses Delta Robotic arm due to its fast, flexible and precise movement. We have also fitted this robotic arm with a sophisticated pressure sensor that ensures the arm is picking up and releasing the objects accurately.
Industry challenges
Hiring staff to work 3 shifts
Sorting facility needs staff working around the clock to maintain efficiency. Filling overnight shifts is challenging as very few are willing to work those hours.
High staff turnover
Nature of the industry makes it harder to retain staff for long periods. This results in frequent re-hiring which costs money and resources.
Human errors
Likelihood of humans to make sorting errors as this requires high degree of alertness.
Differentiating various plastic materials is not possible by humans and they cannot pick up the difference in various plastic materials/densities.
How SpeedWolf resolves industry challenges
No dependency on hiring
SpeedWolf is capable of continual picking thereby eliminating the need for overnight staff to pick and sort materials
Peak efficiency
SpeedWolf is capable of up to 80 picks per minute (can be increased to 120 picks with a special configuration) this is double compared to humans who peak at 40 picks (this can be even lower depending on fatigue level)
SpeedWolf with its fast and accurate picking can replace up to 6 humans thereby boosting efficiency and productivity.
Unmatched accuracy
SpeedWolf stands out from its competitors as it uses Hyper Spectral technology and Neural network which combines spectroscopy and digital imaging to process information across the electromagnetic spectrum which is invisible to the human eye (this technology is very new to this industry). Thanks to its triple sensing method Speedwolf is able to achieve material recognition with very high granularity.
SpeedWolf in Action in Marius Pedersen facility
Marius Pedersen a.s. ran a successful pilot implementation of the SpeedWolf AI sorting robot at one of its facilities. SpeedWolf (designed for efficient sorting), exceeded all expectations during the trial. With its ability to sort waste materials faster and more accurately than humans, SpeedWolf AI has significantly boosted operational efficiency and improved recycling rates. The success of this pilot demonstrates Marius Pedersen’s commitment to innovation in environmental management, ensuring a more sustainable future through the use of advanced technology.
